Kumasi, Oct. 15, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, has donated 500 pieces of white canes to the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Blind Union (GBU) to help facilitate the movement of members.
The donation was in response to a request by the Union to the Company to support them with the white canes.
The presentation of the canes coincided with the International Safety White Cane Day, celebrations which falls on October 15, every year.
This year’s celebration was under the theme “using the white cane to contribute meaningfully in our communities”.
Mr. Edmund Oduro-Adjei, the Stakeholder Engagement Superintendent, AngloGold Ashanti, who presented the white canes, said the donation was to support the partially impaired people to help facilitate their movement.
He said as a Company, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, had over the years discharged its Social Management Plan to support the vulnerable in the communities.
Mr. Oduro-Adjei advised the members to always have a strong mind to be able to overcome their fears in the discharge of their daily activities.
Mr. George Kyeremateng, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GBU who received the canes on behalf of members, lauded AGA Obuasi Mine for the support which he noted would be of great help to beneficiaries.
The Chairman advised the members to make good use of the white canes to help prolong its lifespan and help contribute meaningfully to the community.
