President Akufo-Addo re-nominates seven MDCEs for Volta Region

Ho, Sept 20, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has re-nominated seven persons as Municipal and District Chief Executives for the Volta Region for a second term period.

They are; Mr Phanuel Kadey Donkor, Adaklu District, Mr James Etornam Flolu, Afadzato South, Mr Ernest Victor Appau, Ho West, Mr Moore Zonyrah, Central Tongu, Mr Edmund Atta Kudjoh, North Dayi, Mr Seth Kwashie Yormewu, Anlo and Mr Anthony Avorgbedor, Ketu North Municipality.

Out of the 18 nominees for the region, only one is a female and a new entrant; Madam Emelia Amefa Adziamah for the Agotime Ziope District while the rest are males.

The new entrants are Mr Prosper Paty Kofi, Akatsi North, Mr Martin Kofitsey Nyahe, Akatsi South, Mr Divine Richard Komla Bosson, and Volta Regional NADMO Director for Ho Municipal, Mr Nobel Daniel Yao Awumey, Hohoe Constituency NPP Organiser for Hohoe Municipal.

The rest are; Mr Emmanuel Gemegah, Keta Municipal, Mr Maxwell Koffie Lugudor, Ketu South, Mr Geoffrey Kodzo Badasu, Kpando Municipal, Mr Divine Osborn Fenu Kwadzo, North Tongu, Mr Godwin Dzadzawa Kwame, South Dayi and Mr Seth Kwasi Agbi, South Tongu District.

Mr Dan Botwe, Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development in a press briefing prior to the release of the nominees list said the list of nominees had been forwarded to the various Regional Ministers who would also inform the Electoral Commission and the Presiding Members of the various Assemblies to begin the confirmation processes of the nominees.

He noted that the appointment of a District Chief Executive was a constitutional requirement prescribed under article 240 of the 1992 Constitution.

The Minister said he hoped the process would be smooth and orderly while the public would be law abiding and conduct affairs in a lawful manner.

Mr Botwe also spoke about Order 15 of the Model Standing Orders (MSOs) for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) which stipulates procedures for approval of an MMDCE nominee.

The President’s nominees would have to scale approval of a two-thirds majority vote of Assembly members present and voting through a secret ballot, with the nominees standing a second chance for failure to garner the two-thirds majority or otherwise would be withdrawn.
