Kpone, Sept 21, GNA – Some residents of Kpone on Tuesday said the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive nominee; Mr Samuel Okoe Amanquah must be proactive and initiate development.
The MCE nominee if confirmed by the Assembly, must as a matter of priority identify all the necessary issues that needed to be worked on to enhance socio-economic development of the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality.
Scores in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kpone, commended past MCEs especially Mr Solomon Tettey Appiah the outgoing MCE, while others expressed concern about some past MCEs’ output and urged the nominee to inject new way of local governance system into the municipality.
“Mr Amanquah must be a game changer for Kpone, identify our challenges and immediately roll-out plans to ratify it,” some resident said.
Madam Aku Tetefio, a trader told GNA that; “I know he cannot solve all the problems within one or two years, but we must see action on the ground, the nominee must priorities the developmental needs, in consultation with traditional and other stakeholders move step-by-step”.
Madam Tetefio tasked the nominee to work towards building a legacy in Kpone-Katamanso during his tenure as the MCE.
Madam Agnes Sackey, a trader, said, “well, I don’t know him but he should do our roads, drainage system, we need financial institutions to support traders and other needs, I wish him all the best.
“This man should leave a legacy, target specific sector and focus on it and work on it, to build on the foundation of previous MCEs, the nominee must concentrate major initiatives that affects day-to-day life of residents,” she said.
Ms Christiana Amoah, a shop attendant, expect the MCE nominee to be innovative and bring in development projects, stressing that Kpone was fast growing, the industries around were attracting people and they were moving to settle in the Municipality.
“What we need is a proactive MCE to identify problems and use strategic measures to solve it.
“The youth need job, there are a lot of unemployed graduate in the Municipality, the Assembly must invest in the youth, organize vocational and entrepreneurial trainings for them, and support them to start their businesses,” Mr Carlos Asiedu youth activist said.
“We need better roads, look at the state of the roads, we have been begging for better roads for long. I hope the nominee when given the nod will lobby for the construction of the roads in the Municipality,” Mr Samuel Ologo, a taxi driver said.
Other resident also mentioned poor roads, lack of portable water, lack of recreational facilities, lack of financial institutions, sanitation issues, inadequate jobs among others, as some of the problems hindering development in the Municipality, which the nominee must work on.
They urged him to plan and turn the challenges in the communities into opportunities to the benefit of the people, adding that it was the responsibility of the assembly to economically empower the youth through entrepreneurship and vocational skills in the Municipality to enhance the living standards of the people.
