Awhitieso (W/R), Sept 1, GNA – The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Mr Benjamin Kessie, has presented forty-five motorbikes to assembly members to help facilitate movement to their electoral areas.
He said this formed part of government’s support to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) as they played significant roles in the development of the economy.
Handing over the keys of the motorbikes to the Presiding member, Mr Emmanuel Gado, for onward distribution to the assembly members, the MCE praised the government for constantly resourcing MMDA’s to deliver.
He said the Tarkwa-Nusaem Assembly would register all the motorbikes and renew the insurance yearly for the beneficiaries, stressing that, “those who do not know how to ride should please learn we do not want to record casualties”
Mr Kessie said “some electoral areas have as many as 10 communities. These motorbikes will be useful to Assembly members who serve such communities in the hinterlands, where you cannot use vehicles but motorbikes”.
He said even assembly members in remote areas could pay regular visits to their electorates and help address challenges in their respective communities as soon as possible.
Receiving the motorbikes, the presiding member said “the motorbikes have come at an appropriate time because most of us have many settlements making up our electoral areas. For instance, Akyem, Akyempim, Bankyim, Jerusalem constitute one electoral area and it is very difficult going round working”.
Mr Gado who is also the Assembly member of Cyanide electoral area thanked the government for assisting them to discharge their duties smoothly.
He gave the assurance that they would take good care of the motorbikes to prolong its life span.
