Tema, July 14, GNA – The Tijjaniya Muslims Movement of Ghana (TMMG) is set to join global religious groups at the 2021 International Religious Freedom (IRF) summit, an annual gathering of advocates, to be held in Washington.
This was contained in a letter jointly signed by Katrina Lantos Swett, Former Chair of United States Commission on International Religious Freedom and Co-Chair of IRF Summit 2021 Steering Committee; and Sam Brownback Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom, 2018-2021, Co-Chair of IRF Summit 2021 Steering Committee.
It said, “The issue of international religious freedom touches every culture, nation, religion, and political system; its implications are appreciatively complex and innumerable.”
The letter said participants would develop a coalition for advancing religious freedom in a multitude of countries using an array of mechanisms best suited for each circumstance.
“We will connect resources and advocates, bringing attention to the plight of religious adherents who are persecuted, individually and collectively, as well as growing the grassroots and global movements for religious freedom,” the letter added.
Confirming their participation in the summer summit, Alhaji Mohammed Amin Kassim, Greater Accra Regional Organizer, TMMG, said they were pleased to announce that its National Executive Secretary, Alhaji Khuzaima Mohammed Osman would join world interfaith leaders and champions of religious freedom at the summit.
In a signed statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tema, he said “The participation of Alhaji Khuzaima Osman in this international gathering of experts on religious freedoms and rights gives us a lot of honour and fulfillment, as we struggle to consolidate religious freedom and harmony in Ghana and in the world.”
The statement said: “Over the years, Alhaji Khuzaima has gained a wealth of experience in interfaith work and youth development nationally and internationally,” adding that he would be expected to showcase his rich experience in a manner that would put the Summit to another pedestal of excellence.
“Indeed, his submissions on relevant thematic areas at the Summit would reveal the secret of Ghana’s status as an island of peace and stability,” the statement said.
“The President of the Tijjaniya Muslims Movement of Ghana, Zaeem Sheikh Abdul Wadudu Haruna, appeals to all Ghanaians to pray for divine protection of Alhaji Khuzaima in his journey to the United States,” it concluded.
