Peace Council calls for urgent investigations into Ejura incidence

Accra, July 3, GNA — The National Peace Council (NPC) has called on the relevant agencies in the country to conduct thorough investigations into the Ejura violence without delay.

A statement signed by Reverend Dr Ernest Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the NPC and copied the Ghana News Agency said the Council was appreciative of the President’s directive to Mr Ambrose Dery, the Minister of Interior, to conduct a public inquiry into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate occurrences.

“We encourage the proposed Committee to work within the terms of reference,” the statement said.

It said the Council condemned the unfortunate incident and expressed concern that three Ghanaians had lost their lives.

“The attention of the National Peace Council has been drawn to the shooting incident reported to have taken place in Ejura in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday June 29, 2021.”

“The Council received this unfortunate report in the middle of a National Stakeholder Dialogue to chart a path to consolidate the gains the country made beyond the 2020 elections,” the statement said.

The NPC expressed its deep condolences to the affected families and encouraged all persons in the community to keep calm and allow investigations to take its full course without hindrances.

The statement appealed to the media and all those who made statements on the matter, to exercise maximum restraint in their pronouncements.
