Takoradi, July 24, GNA – The Takoradi Campus of OpenLabs Ghana, formerly NIIT Ghana, has held a free one-day IT training workshop for staff of Ghana News Agency (GNA) in the Western Region as part of efforts to enhance the digital space.
The training, which sought to educate the staff on various IT application tools and usages to enhance their daily operational work, explored key areas such as Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Excel with practical demonstration on topics like Activating Microsoft Outlook, Merging of Mails and Reviewing and Tracking Documents.
The Head of Takoradi Campus, Mr Richard K. Nartey said it was important to acquire such IT skills considering the fact that the world was now being driven on the wheels of technology.
He said it was imperative for journalists to build their capacity in the IT Sector to enable them to compete in the global digital space.
Mr Nartey stressed that it was necessary for parents to allow their children and youth to at least build a skill in IT since in the near future jobs requirements would be dependent on knowledge in IT.
He said it was important to catch them young by introducing IT lessons to them at the basic level, this he noted would make them prolific and efficient in the digital space.
Mrs Justina Paaga, the Western Regional Manager of GNA, expressed her gratitude for the goodwill done the Agency and said the training would go a long way to make their work faster and efficient.
She prayed that the cordial relationship between OpenLabs Ghana and GNA would grow into greater heights and urged the beneficiaries of the training to put into practice the skills they acquired to improve on their stories.
OPEN LABs GHANA which has been in existence in Ghana for over two decades, has about Five branches across the country, is an Information Technology (IT) training and consulting Institute and was recently awarded the best Technology Consultancy Firm in 2021.
It is focused on skills development and also aimed at graduating skilled professionals who can change the lives of millions in Ghana through their innovative solutions.
The Takoradi campus runs Professional Diploma and certificate Programmes in Hardware and Networking, Graphic Design, Microsoft Office, Python Programming, Robotics among others.
The campus has also organised similar training sessions for more than 200 SHS students in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
