Frankfurt, July 13, (dpa/GNA) – German airline Lufthansa is to scrap its greeting of “ladies and gentlemen” and instead welcome passengers on board in gender neutral terms, a company spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday.
The regulation applies to all the company’s subsidiaries, including Austrian, Swiss, Eurowings and Brussels Airlines. The German Bild newspaper had first reported on the change.
“It is important to us that we take everyone into account in our forms of address,” a Lufthansa spokesman told the daily.
Phrases such as “good day,” “good evening,” or simply “welcome on board,” could be used, according to the spokesman, with the decision down to the cabin chief.
