Aiyinasi (W/R), July 18,GNA – A-two-day downpour, which reached its peak on Friday night around 2300 hours, caved in the road linking Nzema-Aiyinase to Menzezor making it difficult for commuters plying that stretch to transact business.
The disaster, which occurred exactly at the Ghana Marine Police Training center, led to human and vehicular traffic, disrupting the economic and social life activities of travellers.
A visit to the scene revealed that a saloon car from Takoradi enroute Jomoro, had fallen into the pit which dividing the road into two.
Many drivers and motorists plying that stretch therefore became stranded as they could not move to either side of the road.
Some residents of Nzema Aiyinasi attributed the situation to refuse heaped by residents into the culvert which prevented the running water to flow freely.
Speaking to newsmen, the Ellembelle District NADMO Coordinator, Mr. Bright Erzan described the situation as unprecedented and his outfit was trying unsuccessfully to remove the saloon car from the pit and appealed to the public to help in towing the vehicle out of the place.
Mr. Erzan also appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to as a matter of urgency, to reconstruct the broken road.
“In fact, as a District, we cannot reconstruct this road; this is a national issue and we are appealing to Central Government to fix the road for us”, he pleaded.
He advised residents at Nzema Aiyinasi to stop dumping refuse into gutters to avert any future disaster.
