Rural Banks must reach out to more communities

Bolgatanga, June, 18, GNA – Mr Kojo Mattah, the Managing Director of ARB Apex Bank, says the ARB Apex Bank is committed to empowering rural agency banking services to expand its scope to reach out to more rural communities.

This, he said, would enable the Banks to contribute to socio –economic development in rural communities and help alleviate poverty.

Mr Mattah said this in a speech read on his behalf at the commissioning of a new agency of Toende Rural Bank in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.

Mr Mattah commended the shareholders, management and staff of the bank for the hard work and steady growth of the Bank and adding that, rendering improved and continuous services amidst the COVID 19 pandemic was worthy of praise.

He said the achievement of the Bank, as shown in its 46th position out of 144 in the ratings of rural banks was no mean achievement and urged management and staff not to relent in their operational performance and social support services in the new agency so as to give hope and prosperity to communities.

He also thanked the shareholders for helping in the growth of the agency and the customers for their loyalty to the bank.

Dr Joseph Ayembilla, the Board chairman of the Toende Rural bank, who commissioned the new building, said the agency’s commitment to be in the lead and its strategic partner role in the socio economic development of communities in the catchment area has propelled the staff to work hard work to achieve the goals of the bank.

He commended all the stakeholders for their support in the construction of the new agency’s edifice which cost GH¢1.3 million and urged them to make efforts to increase their shares in the bank to enable it to provide more services.

Mr Atorka Salifu Gande, the Manager of the bank, in a speech said the Bank was expected to increase its services to salaried workers, give salary advances, remittance services and enhance micro finance support packages among others to income generating groups.

The Toende Rural Bank has its headquarters in Zebilla in the Bawku West district. In its 2018 performance report, the Bank ended the year with a capital of GH¢1,067.057 against GH¢1,039.673 in 2017 which represented 2.63 per cent increase, with total assets of GH¢19,110,354.00 as against GH¢12,907.056 in 2017.
