Accra, June 11, GNA – The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS) on Friday has planted twenty (20) trees of various species at its Greater Accra Regional office to support the Green Ghana initiative aimed at improving the country’s tree cover.
NHIA throughout its 138 Districts and 16 Regional Offices are expected to plant about 1,050 trees across the country.
In a release signed by Mrs Lydia Adjei-Tutu, the Public Relations Officer and copied the Ghana News Agency, said the launch was led by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Baaba Serby and her Deputies Mrs Yaa Pokua and Ms. Vivian Cobbiah.
Green Ghana Project, is the Government of Ghana’s initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Natural Resources, which seeks to plant millions of tree across the country.
Speaking at the tree planting exercise, Dr. Serby acknowledged the importance of trees to the existence of humanity and health, hence, the need for NHIS participation in the Green Ghana initiative across its offices.
She said that NHIA has opened opportunities for all staff and very soon it will be seen in fruition.
Dr. Serby also noted that majority of the Regional Staff were women who needed to be empowered to take up positions and responsibilities.
She tasked all staff to work hard and to be committed to duty to ensure that NHIA maintained its position of being the best government institution in Ghana and the lead in Sub-Sahara Africa.
