Ghana Mineworkers’ Union launches week celebration

Accra, June 21, GNA-The Ghana Mineworkers’ Union has launched its maiden annual week celebration to appreciate the hard work and loyalty of members.

The event is also to develop and deepen familiarity among members, create awareness and campaign on key issues relating to the mining industry.

Mr Abdul-Moomin Gbana, the General Secretary of the Union, at the launch of the programme in Accra, urged members to remain committed to the extractive industry for national growth.

The event, which starts today, Monday, June 21, 2021, is on the theme: “Integrating Labour and Community Interest for Socio-economic Development.”

As part of the celebration, a number of activities have been earmarked, including; the hoisting of the Union’s flags and distribution of paraphernalia, courtesy calls on key stakeholders particularly in mining communities and campaign on the glaring infrastructural deficit in mining communities.

The rest are: special donations to targeted institutions in the health and education sectors within mining communities, media interviews and the offering of unique ID cards to members.

There will also be Union fully funded insurance cover (including the member, spouse, two parents or two parent in-laws, and two children) under the Union’s Abusua Insurance Scheme as a special gift to all members beginning August 1, 2021.
