Daimler boss optimistic about car business looking ahead into 2022

Stuttgart, June 8, (dpa/GNA) – Optimism levels remain high and should remain so through the start of 2022, Ola Kaellenius, the boss of German carmaker Daimler, told industry publication Automotive News Europe, in comments published on Tuesday.

While he acknowledged that there are many unknown external factors right now, he said demand for vehicles will probably rise in the second half of 2021, a trend that should continue into 2022, he said.

He said that he hopes his company benefits from demand for new car models.

Kaellenius already boosted his projections for Mercedes-Benz car and van sales for this year after strong first quarter results, anticipating operating margins of 10 to 12 percent, before interest and taxes.

Strong sales in China have buoyed business for German carmakers of late.
