Sunyani, June 09, GNA – The Bono Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has educated a total of 2, 221 pupils on national values through this year’s annual citizenship week celebration in the Sunyani Municipality.

The NCCE Regional Office visited 15 basic schools within the Municipality whilst every District in the region went to 13 basic schools, Ms. Doris Gbongbo, the Regional Director of the Commission disclosed in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday in Sunyani to mark the climax of the regional celebration.

The event, on the theme “We are One, Ghana First” focused on imbibing in the pupils a sense of reverence for national symbols and heritage such as the national flag, anthem, pledge and coat of arms.

The celebration also centred on patriotism and unity, Ms. Gbongbo said because “we need to be united, recognize and respect the rights of others and fulfill our responsibilities as Ghanaians”.

She stated the citizenship week celebration was one of the Commission’s flagship programmes, which strategized to reach out to pupils on particularly human rights provisions of the 1992 Fourth Republican Constitution.

Ms. Gbongbo observed violence, illegalities, political intolerance and ethnic conflicts were common nowadays and the Commission through the celebration created an atmosphere of unity among Ghanaians.

She emphasised the adolescents and the youth were the nation’s future leaders and must therefore be guided and inculcate in them moral values for them to become highly nationalistic and responsible citizens.

Ms. Gbongbo appealed to all Ghanaians to be abreast with the provisions of the constitutional and defend it at all times.
