More than 200 aspiring MMDCEs in Ashanti undergo vetting

Kumasi, May 22, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee has commenced the screening of more than 200 aspirants for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) positions in the Region.

The Committee, Chaired by the Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, commenced sitting on Thursday, May 20.

So far, aspirants for the Kumasi Metropolis, Asokwa, Kwadaso, Adansi-North, Adansi-South, Adansi-Asokwa, Atwima-Nwabiagya North, Old-Tafo and Asokore-Mampong, were vetted.

Mr. Osei-Mensah, in a briefing, told the media in Kumasi, that they had a period of about 10 days within which to complete the exercise for all the 43 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

The Kumasi Metropolis is being keenly contested with five aspirants contesting the incumbent Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi.

Others include; Nana Poku Agyeman, Kumasi Metropolitan Roads Engineer, Mr Samuel Pyne, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kennedy Kankam, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nyiaeso and Mr Kwabena Manu, a former employee of the Railway Ministry.
