Maaduteng, (UW/R), May 22, GNA – Residents of Maaduteng, a community in the Wa West district have expressed worry about the undue delay by authorities in commissioning the newly constructed health facility to offer quality healthcare delivery to the people.
Access to healthcare services at Maaduteng is a major challenge as the newly constructed health facility in the community is yet to be commissioned.
According to them, the facility was completed for a long time, but was still under lock and key, while they trekked several kilometres to Ga to access healthcare services.
Mr Ngmaadar Francis, the Regent of the community, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that “from what we see they have finished and painted it but we don’t know what is preventing authorities from opening the facility for use”.
He noted that currently “it is the tricycle we use to transport a sick person or pregnant woman to the Ga Health Centre, but the road too is not good”.
He said during the rainy season for instance, pregnant women were unable to attend Antenatal Care (ANC), which had dire consequences on their health.
Madam Uudey Anlo also told the GNA that pregnant women sometimes delivered at home or on their way to the facility at Ga.
“You don’t always know the day you will deliver so when you are in labour and you are not able to get to the facility on time, you deliver on the road. Sometimes getting a tricycle here is very difficult.
“When you deliver on the way or in the house and go to the facility the nurses are always complaining why we should deliver at home. But it is not our fault”, she explained.
The people therefore appealed to the District Assembly to take the necessary steps to commission the facility to help bring healthcare services closer to their door steps.
Mr Loggu-Naa Mumuni, the Assembly Member for the Ga Electrical Area explained that the project was one of the fastest projects to be executed in the district, but it had since not been handed over due to non-payment of the contractor.
He expressed hope that it would be commissioned as soon as the District Chief Executives were appointed.
