Betway donates to Volleyball teams in Western and Western North Regions

Takoradi, May 21. GNA – The leading online gaming company Betway, has donated sporting equipment worth thousands of cedis to twelve volleyball teams in the Western and Western North Regions.

The items donated included, volleyballs, training bibs, nets and training cones to aid the players in their training.

The company through some resource persons also engaged the teams in a sports capacity building training on sports science and coaching.

Mr. Stephen Appiah, Former Captain for the Black Stars and Betway Ambassador who interacted with participants during the capacity building session shared with them his journey to stardom.

He explained to them his humble beginning from the streets of Chorkor in Accra and urged them to exercise humility, wherever, they found themselves and also be focused on their goals.

He stressed the need to be passionate and hardworking in their chosen professions.

Mr. Appiah said, “When you do what you love, you don’t get tired because your passion is what fuels you even when there is no financial gain involved”.

He added that the road won’t be smooth and urged them not to give up on their dreams and encouraged them to be positive and humble in pursuing their life’s course.

Dr. Aniemena -George Chidi, a Sport and Exercise Physician Scientist who engaged the players on sports science centered on the need to bridge the gap between sports and health.

Taking them through some sciences in sports, Mr. chidi touched on Introduction to Sports and Exercise Medicine, Sports Sociology, Muscular Fatigue and Recovery, Nutrition and Sports Psychology, explaining that sports was 10 percent physical and 90 percent mental.

Mr. Kwabena Oppong-Nkrumah, Country Manager (Marketing) for Betway Ghana in an interview with the GNA explained, that the gesture formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility )CSR), which aims at empowering young people through sports.

According to him, Betway had engaged in CSR for the past five years, with plans of greater support to the communities they operated in the future.

Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah mentioned that the company recently launched “Betwayup” which is a community support programme geared towards uplifting sport teams in Ghana.

He mentioned that similar donations have taken place in the Central and Ashanti regions.
