Kansoe (U/E), April 1, GNA – The College of Applied Sciences (ReCAS) at Kansoe in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region is focusing on equipping graduates with skills and knowledge to become self-employed.
Reverend Father Dr Moses Asaah Awinongya, the President of the College said the main priority of the college was not only to make graduates ready for the job market but to also train young people to be innovative enough to create jobs for themselves and employ others through entrepreneurship.
Addressing the 3rd Congregation and 4th Matriculation of the College via Zoom, Rev Fr Awinongya said since the establishment of the school, it had committed itself to develop the human resource of the country and had trained young people who had set up their businesses and employing other people.
He said the College had collaborated effectively with the African German Entrepreneurship Academy to help boost the activities of the Enterprise Promotion Unit of the Business and Career Development Center of the College, to help train graduates in entrepreneurship.
“This process of job creation remains our main agenda. We are convinced that the development of Ghana and the West African subregion depends on the creation of the mentality of producing and not on buying and selling. So ReCAS joined the African German Entrepreneurship Academy to help boost the activities of the Enterprise Promotion Unit of the Business and Career Development Center, which is one of a kind in Ghana”, the President said.
Rev. Fr Awinongya stated that through the establishments of the Regentropfen Family of Institutions, the students of the College had learnt to undertake work and study programmes within, thus exposing them to the reality of life on Campus and outside of Ghana.
He explained further that for ReCAS to test the quality standards of its products, the College went into international collaboration with the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, USA, where some students of the College are currently undertaking various programmes.
He stated that while some of the students are pursuing MSc Computer Science Programmes, others were pursuing studies in Health Management, Education and Computer Science.
Professor Felix Kofi Abagale, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), commended ReCAS management for increasing its staff strength to an acceptable level and facilitating quality delivery of teaching and learning as well research and community service and advised the graduates to eschew social vices.
“The UDS will continue to provide the right coaching and mentoring to support your college to enable it to grow to become a world-class university college as desired by all stakeholders”. thUDS Pro-VC stated.
The institution received the institutional accreditation from the National Accreditation Board in April 2016 to run degree and diploma courses in the areas of Agriculture for Social Change, Business Administration, Accounting, Basic Education and Computer Science.
It is affiliated to the UDS.
Thirty-one students who had undergone various diploma and degree programmes graduated while 36 new students were ushered in to pursue various programmes.
