Gwollu (UW/R), April 29, GNA – Rainstorm on Wednesday destroyed 19 electric poles and cut power supply to several communities in the Sissala West and parts of the Sissala East districts.
Mr Abu Ahmed Zulhaq, the Area Supervisor of VRA/NEDCO, told the GNA that the storm caused a lot of havoc at Leo in the Upper West Region and some communities in neighbouring Burkina-Faso.
“We are very sorry to inform all our customers under the Gwollu District and Leo Province that the outage being experienced is as a result of 19 poles being destroyed due to the rainstorm Wednesday evening,” he said.
Mr Zulhag assured all that arrangement had been made for replacement and pleaded with the people to bear with the company, which was working tirelessly to replace the broken poles.
He said 16 poles were affected between Kupulima and Limiera, and three destroyed between Sorbelle and Buoti, whilst Tumu to Welembelle, and Funsi Kundugu to Yaala had no power adding that inspections were ongoing to ascertain the cause.
He said a contractor was on the way to the affected areas to replace the poles and appealed to the assembly members to assist in the digging of the holes for quick return of power to those areas.
