Accra, April 01, GNA – Mr. Richard Iddrisu, the National Sports Authority (NSA) Greater Accra Regional Director has inaugurated new Executives for the Greater Accra Baseball and Softball Association.
The inaugurated Executives have been sworn to office and would run the affairs of the sports body for two years.
The new Executive Members are, Hugo Banzini, (Chairman), Madam Adwoa Bame, (Vice-Chairperson), Lawrence Markwei, (Secretary), and Victor Buxton, (Treasurer/Organizer).
Inaugurating the executives, Mr. Iddrisu, said, “The coming into office of the new executives is timely following the inactiveness of previous executives who were in office for over ten years.”
He said the Regional Sports Authority were tasked to reactivate all inactive Associations under its umbrella, adding that with the coming of the new executives, it was his belief that, baseball and softball games would hit the ground running with a lot of activities in the region.
Mr. Iddrisu said the organization of baseball and softball should not be restricted to only the Metropolitan enclaves within the Greater Accra Region but should be extended to all the 29 districts across the region.
“To show your eagerness to work really hard to promote the sports across the region, you must ensure that you focus to at least give the presence of the sports in at least ten districts before the end of tenure”, he said.
Mr. Iddrisu urged the new executives to be proactive in seeking funds to organize and promote the sports adding that the Regional Office would be there to lend it support whenever the need arose.
The Chairman of the Association, Mr. Banzini, thanked the Regional Sports Directorate for the confidence reposed in the executives adding that the new executives would soon formulate strategic plans to introduce baseball and softball in all the 29 districts in the region.
“Community baseball development as well as Inter-Schools competition will be key to baseball and softball development in the region and we will do our best to adhere to the principles of open administration and the tenets of our constitution”, he said.
Mr. Banzini called on corporate bodies, diplomatic missions, and individuals to come on board to support baseball and softball in the country since the game had immense potential to win international laurels.
