Accra, March 2, GNA – Police Ladies FC narrowly lost 1-2 to four-time champions Hassacas Ladies FC in match-day six of the National Women’s Premier League played at the Mcdan La Town Park in Accra on Sunday.
The 1-2 loss to Hassacas Ladies was Police Ladies’ third home defeat in the NWPL following losses against Soccer Intellectuals and Berry Ladies.
The defeat puts Police Ladies on seven points, having won two, drawn one and lost three after six matches.
Milot Abena Pokua’s brace yesterday ended the Police Football club’s ambition to pick their first home win of the season with Captain Josephine Boateng pulling a consolation for her side.
All three goals came in the first half, and no matter how hard the homers tried, they were denied by the gallant defensive display of the visitors.
Though Hassacas Ladies, nicknamed “Dooooooo” were leading going into the second half, the “Doooooo” girls got an opportunity to increase their goals tally to three, but the playmaker Doris Boaduwaa missed the glorious chance to register her name on the scoresheet.
Hassacas Ladies are now on 15 points and lying behind Berry Ladies in the Southern Zone league table.
In the Immigration Ladies versus Sea Lions encounter, Immigration Ladies travelled to Elmina to post a solitary goal against struggling Sea Lions.
Faustina Kyereme’s 16th-minute goal was enough to hand Immigration Ladies the maximum points on Saturday. After six matches played, Immigration Ladies have won only one, drawn two, and lost three.
The win gives them five points, whilst Sea Lions are still stuck with two points and at the bottom of the eight clubs league table in the Southern Zone.
Also, in the Southern Zone, league leaders, Berry Ladies drew level for the first time in the season. Lady Strikers became the first team to snatch a point from Berry after a pulsating 2-2 draw with Coach Mercy Quarcoo-Tagoe’s side.
Berry Ladies are still unbeaten in the season and the draw gives them 16 points, one more than second-placed team, Hassacas Ladies FC.
Berry Ladies were the first to score in the 23rd-minute courtesy Cynthia Boakye Yiadom’s goal, but it was cancelled by Gladys Amfobea in the 37th minute before Suzzy Dede Teye’s goal in the 43rd minute. Berry Ladies rallied from behind to equalize through their leading goal scorer, Felicity Asante. Berry got the chance to emerge victorious but Asante blew it away from the spot.
At Ajumako, Thunder Queens again failed to pick their first win of the season after losing 2-0 to Soccer Intellectuals at away. Thunder Queens, coached by Edna Quagraine is currently on two points and still chasing for a first win.
In the Northern Zone, Ampem Darkoa continued their dominance in the zone after they inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Ashtown Ladies, who are finding it difficult in the season. Goals from Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah and Sonia Opoku in the second half were crucial to brush aside Rita Boamah’s 67th. Minute strike. Ampem Darkoa remains unbeaten in the Zone.
Northern Ladies sat at home to beat Supreme Ladies by a 1-0 scoreline, courtesy Victoria Salifu an early goal in the 13th minute whilst the match involving Prisons Ladies and Pearlpia Ladies ended in favour of the homers. Abigail Tutuwa put her side ahead two minutes from recess and was important to hand Prisons Ladies the maximum point.
In other results, Kumasi Sports Academy beat Fabulous ladies 2-1 with goals from Favour Fosua Anane and Joyce Larbi, whilst Erica Forkuo grabbed the only goal for her side.
