Milot Abena Pokua bags brace to hand Hassacas Ladies victory

Accra, March 1, GNA – Sensational player, Milot Abena Pokua grabbed a brace to hand Hassacas Ladies FC the maximum points over Police Ladies FC in the National Women’s Premier League (NWPL).

Hassacas ladies, nicknamed “Dooooooooo” traveled to Accra to beat Police Ladies FC 2-1 at home in a keenly contested match-day six encounter played at the McDan La Town Park on Sunday.

Two goals from the national team player, Abena Pokua were enough to seal the crucial win for the Sekondi based club coached by Black Princesses coach, Yusif Basigi.

Pokua grabbed an early goal in the 3rd minute having capitalised on a defensive blunder from the homers to beat goalie Vida Zanu Fiati.

Twelve minutes after the goal, Police Ladies were chasing for the equalizer which saw defender Janet Egyiri shouldered a ball in the 18-yard box which was seen as a foul by the Centre Referee, Monica Lange and awarded a penalty to the home team.

The Captain of Police Ladies, Josephine Boateng stepped up to take the leader’s role to expertly drew parity for her side from the spot.

On the 20th minute, the visitors were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead from the spot, but their playmaker Doris Boaduwaa wasted the chance to keep the scoreline on level.

Boaduwaa again came close to scoring but her thunderous shot was parried away by Fiati.

With 15 minutes to end the first half, sensational player Pokua grabbed a brace for her side to give her team the lead before recess.

In an attempt to save Pokua’s second goal, Fiati stretched which ended her injured before recess. This necessitated for Police Ladies’ Coach, Frank Sam to substitute her with Nana Ama Asantewaa.

The second half started on a high note where the home team (Police Ladies) kept moving at lightning speed to get the crucial equalizer and match on to win their first home match.

Coach Sam brought on Jane Ayieyam, Louisa Aniwa, to augment the team to at least snatch a point from home.

However, the gallant defensive display from Hasssaacas team, led by phenomenal Janet Egyiri and members Faustina Aidoo, Regina Antwi, Queenabel Amankwah ensured the team traveled back with the maximum points.

The loss puts Police ladies on seven points after six matches, whilst Hassacas ladies are on 15 points, a point less than the league leaders, Berry Ladies FC.

Hasaacas Ladies defender Janet Egyir was adjudged the NASCO player of the match at the end of the game.
