IS claims deadly attack on female journalists in Afghanistan

Kabul, March 3, (dpa/GNA) – The terrorist Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the killing of three female journalists in Afghanistan.

Islamic State fighters shot dead the three television journalists, according to a statement circulated by the group on its usual social media channels on Tuesday evening.

The employees of independent broadcaster Enikas, who worked in the dubbing section, were killed at a market in the eastern Afghan provincial capital Jalalabad on Tuesday, the broadcaster said.

The US embassy in Kabul strongly condemned the attack.

Despite the start of peace talks between the Taliban and government representatives in September 2020, the country has been rocked by a wave of violence.

Human rights activists, journalists and religious scholars are often caught in the attacks.

According to the UN mission UNAMA, at least nine media workers were murdered last year.
