Landslide kills at least 11, injures 18 in Indonesia’s West Java

Jakarta, Jan. 10, (dpa/GNA) – A landslide triggered by heavy rain overnight killed at least 11 people and injured 18 in Indonesia’s West Java province, the country’s disaster agency said Sunday.

An unknown number of people were still missing after the landslide late Saturday in Sumedang district, said National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Raditya Jati.

More rain is expected in the area in the coming days, he said.
“We urge people to be on alert for hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, typhoons, and landslides,” he said.

Floods and landslides are common in Indonesia during the rainy season from October to March.
