Cape Coast, Dec. 01, GNA – Special voting for security personnel and other professionals including media personnel who would be on duty on Monday, December 7, during the general election, took off smoothly in the Cape Coast South constituency on Tuesday.
When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Central Regional Police Headquarters, the designated polling station for the exercise at about 07:30 hours, 20 of the 430 expected voters had cast their ballots amidst the adherence to the health and safety protocols.
There was a long queue comprising personnel from the Media, Police, Fire, Prisons, and Immigration Services.
Veronica Buckets had been placed at vantage points to allow voters to observe the COVID-19 safety protocols before they cast their ballot.
The Presiding Officer, Mr Stephen Gyakye, said there had not been any problem as of 10.30hrs.
Some police personnel have been assigned to the polling station to ensure peace and order.
At the Cape Coast North, voting started at 7.05hours with all the safety protocols strictly observed.
As of 8:24hours, 71 security personnel had cast their ballots at the GNFS Regional Offices at Pedu, in Cape Coast.
The Party Agents present at that time observing the event were from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and they all expressed satisfaction about the voting process.
Mr David Kofi Ampah, the Returning Officer stated that 485 officials were expected to cast their ballots.
He added that they had duly followed all the protocols and all the legal requirements to ensure the smooth running of the election.
