Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine also approved in Ecuador and Chile

Rio de Janeiro, Dec. 17, (dpa/GNA) – Ecuador and Chile have also approved the Covid-19 vaccine developed by German company BioNTech and its US partner Pfizer.

A plane with the first 20,000 doses of the vaccine will land in Chile this month, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera said in a televised address on Wednesday evening.

The Public Health Institute tentatively approved the vaccine on Wednesday, which corresponds to an emergency approval.

In Ecuador, Health Minister Juan Carlos Zevallos announced that the first 50,000 vaccine doses from BioNTech/Pfizer would arrive from January.

Mexico’s Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) had granted the vaccine emergency approval on Friday.
