Effiduase (Ash), Dec 31, GNA – Reverend Alexander Kofi Mireku, Asante Effiduase District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost, has urged Ghanaians to prioritize the wearing of African fabrics during festivities.
He said the wearing of local fabrics that had symbolic representation of the African culture during festivities such as Christmas, would not only portray their Ghanaian identity, but would also localize the celebration of international festivities.
Rev. Mireku made the call at the last Sunday church service to climax the district’s Christmas convention, at Effiduase in the Sekyere East District.
He said Christmas celebrations were not only to recognize the need for love, togetherness, peace and harmony among humanity as indicated in the Bible.
It is also geared towards creating awareness on the need to respect and celebrate one’s unique cultural identity as given by God.
“If God respects human race irrespective of origination, there is therefore the need to give credence to our culture as Africans, especially we as Ghanaians, particularly in what we wear during festivities like Christmas, in order to give pride to our origination and forefathers,” he stated.
He said wearing African or Ghanaian fabrics such as Kente, Smocks and other made in Ghana or African clothes during key global festivities such as Christmas, Easter, New Year, among others, also reminded the people of their common heritage and identity since the birth and death of Jesus Christ came to serve such purpose.
He reminded the congregants and all persons on the need to live a holy life with love for humanity just as Jesus Christ did.
Mr. Frank Obeng Kyei, an Elder and Secretary of the Church said public’s patronage of local fabrics would help boost the local economy and help curb poverty and unemployment.
