Twenty-One Turkey-backed rebels killed in ambush in northern Syria

DAMASCUS, Nov. 26, (Xinhua/GNA) – At least 21 Turkey-backed rebels were killed and 10 others wounded in an ambush by the Kurdish militia in Syria’s northern province of Raqqa on Tuesday, a war monitor reported.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) set up the ambush in the vicinity of the Ayn Issa town in the northern countryside of Raqqa, when they withdrew from the town after planting a network of mines, which detonated when Turkey-backed rebels entered the area after midnight, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Afterward, the SDF heavily shelled the area that was infiltrated by the Turkey-backed rebels, said the UK-based watchdog group.

The SDF and Turkey-backed rebels have been pitted against each other in northern Syria as part of the desire of Turkey-backed rebels to drive out the SDF of areas in northern Syria.
