Political watchers in Sunyani eulogise former President Rawlings

Sunyani, Nov. 13, GNA – Political watchers in the Sunyani Municipality on Friday described the demise of former President Jerry John Rawlings as “early and disturbing”.

In a random interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), many of them said they were shocked about the death of the former President while others described the news as “unbelievable and a nightmare”.

“J.J Rawlings’ political experience in government is exceptional and we have lost a great hero”, says Mr. Jascot Hawkins Alhassan, a former Assembly Member for Sunyani Zongo electoral area.

Describing the late former President as an anti-corruption crusader and ardent human rights defender, Mr Alhassan said “his political experiences in both military and constitutional governments are required at this time in the nation’s efforts to consolidate the gains of its democracy”.

‘Indeed, the nation and Africa has lost a true statesman and inspirer with patriotic credential and I will forever remember him with such traits, he added.

“The late former President Rawlings was a brave warrior who fought for his nation and his compatriots and I will forever remember him on that score” Mr Maxwell Frimpong, an educationist stated frenzy in a voice.

“He was factual and tactful and in fact, he inspires me a lot. Rawlings was a selfless leader with sound charismatic traits and principles”, he added.

Mrs Leticia Amponsah Gyan, a pretty trader at the Nana Bosoma Central market noted the late former President Rawlings had left an indelible mark in the nation’s political space.

She observed the nation could not pay back the sense of patriotism and nationalism embedded in the former president and expressed the hope that a befitting national monument would be instituted in honour of him.
