Kadjebi (O/R), Nov. 6, GNA – Mr Maxwell Kofi Asiedu, Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE), has appealed to the chiefs and people of the district to help curb the rampant smuggling of Cocoa beans to Togo.

He said the act was criminal and unpardonable and was seriously attracting bad press and this may affect the District in diverse ways in the future.”

Mr Asiedu, who was addressing the 36th National Farmers’ Day celebration at Kadjebi in the Oti Region, urged them to provide the security forces with reliable and timely information that would lead to the arrest of perpetrators.

He said although the District Security Council was doing its best to curtail the menace, it would, however, not succeed without the involvement of the chiefs and the citizens.

He congratulated the farmers and actors along the agriculture value chain for a successful farming year and a good harvest.

Mr Besa Akpalu, the Kadjebi District Director of Agriculture, urged the farmers to adhere to the technical advice, knowledge and skills being taught by Extension Officers for a good harvest and much crop yield.

He said the Kadjebi District had Rivers such as Menu, Asukawkaw and Wawa, which could be used as a dam for irrigation for all-round farming and appealed to the Kadjebi District Assembly to help utilise these resources.

He admonished the citizens to stop bush burning, indiscriminate felling of trees for charcoal and firewood since “climate change is not from God, but man.”

The 2020 Best District Farmer, Mr Xorva Awumee called on the youth to venture into farming since it was a good investment and profit-making venture.

In all, 19 farmers were awarded certificates, farm inputs and building materials.
