Israeli jets strike southern Syrian targets, SANA reports

Beirut, Nov. 25, (dpa/GNA) – Israeli fighter jets carried out a strike on targets in southern Syria on Tuesday evening, Syrian state news agency SANA reported.

The agency cited a statement from a military source as saying that Israel launched a strike from the occupied Golan towards southern Damascus.

According to the statement, there was only material damage.

Initially there were no further details nor a statement from the Israeli side.

Just a week ago, Israeli fighter jets fired at several targets in Syria. Among other things, warehouses, military facilities and batteries of Syrian surface-to-air missiles were attacked. According to Syrian sources, three soldiers were killed.

Since the beginning of the year, Israel has carried out 35 strikes against different targets across Syria and killed 198 people loyal to the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday.

Israeli strikes against targets in war-torn Syria have been seen as an attempt to prevent Iran, one of al-Assad’s main allies, from building up its military influence in the region.

Last week, at least three Syrian soldiers were killed when Israeli fighter jets struck military targets on Syrian territory. The observatory said at least 10 people had died.
