Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – Mr Gregory Andrews, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana has commissioned ten-seater toilet and six washroom facilities for the people of La Nyantrabi Community in the Adobeto Electoral Area to ensure proper sanitation and good hygiene practices.
The purpose of the toilet facility was to curb open defecation which the community was faced with due to lack of public toilet facility.
The project was spearheaded by Professional Network Association (ProNet) in collaboration with La Dedekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) and was funded by Australian Aid.
Mr Andrews said the facilities were essential for human health and for individual dignity, adding that, it was relevant for every community to have access to a toilet facility.
The High Commissioner said people chose open defecation because of the lack of toilet facilities and was pleased to commission the toilet and bathroom block for the people at La.
He said open defecation was a leading cause of attracting diseases like Cholera and Typhoid, which caused severe diarrhea and urged the people to desist from such acts.
He called on the community to always use the toilet facility since it was essential for the good of the people, adding that they were affordable investments which improve public health and provide dignity as well.
Mr Emmanuel Addisenu, Project Coordinator for ProNet said, the construction of the project was to aid the community especially the women and vulnerable who did not have access to toilet facility in their various homes to do so with ease.
He said the outfit had the interest of ensuring good sanitation of the community and was pleased to establish the project within the Municipality.
Madam Stella Allotey a resident in the community was excited for having the facilities in the community and commended the Officials for their assistance.
