Mexico City, Nov. 24, (dpa/GNA) – At least 16 people were killed and 25 injured on Monday in a bus crash in northern Nicaragua, authorities reported.
German Vargas, the mayor of the municipality of Waslala, told Radio Nueva YA that the accident was apparently due to a brake failure on an incline near the community of Ocote Tuma, some 18 kilometres south of Waslala.
Local media showed images of the vehicle overturned among the trees and bodies on the ground.
Nicaragua has been recently hit by storms Eta and Iota, which caused floods and triggered landslides in the country, resulting in more than 20 deaths.
