Mexico City, Oct. 14, (dpa/GNA) – Fourteen suspected criminals have been killed in north-central Mexico in a shoot-out with police, security authorities in Zacatecas state said on Tuesday.
The shoot-out occurred in the Calera municipality after the “civilian armed group” attacked a police patrol on Monday, Public Security Secretary Arturo Lopez told broadcaster Milenio.
Three police officers and one of the presumed criminals were injured, according to a statement late on Monday.
Police confiscated three vehicles, as well as weapons and drugs.
The country of 130 million people recorded an average of nearly 99 killings daily in the first half of this year.
Most of the killings are attributed to criminal gangs.
