Rome, Oct. 29, (dpa/GNA) – The number of new coronavirus infections within one day in Italy reached 24,991 in the previous 24 hours, the authorities in Rome announced on Wednesday.
It was only on Sunday that the threshold of 20,000 new infections was exceeded in Italy. The country of around 60 million inhabitants registered 205 fatalities linked to the virus in the past 24 hours.
Since the pandemic began in February, there have been almost 590,000 confirmed infections with the coronavirus in the Mediterranean country. The number of coronavirus deaths has now risen to 37,905.
The government in Rome recently tightened restrictions on the population in an attempt to stem the spread of the virus such as closing all restaurants at 6 pm. Cinemas and theatres have been closed since Monday.
