World Vision presents relief items to 55 pregnant school girls

Kete – Krachi (O/R) Sept 30, GNA – World Vision Ghana has presented some relief items to 55 teenage pregnant school girls in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region.

Mr Samuel Tseganu, Sponsorship and Protection Officer of the World Vision in the Krachi West District, disclosed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that these young girls got pregnant between March and May after schools were closed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The items include Dettol, pieces of Ariel, matador washing powders, toilet rolls, disposable shaving sticks, sanitary towels, parazones, medisoft soaps and gift bags, all worth GH¢ 37,136.00

Mr Tseganu said World Vision is working with the most vulnerable children, families and communities to support teenagers to overcome problems in the society.

He said considering the impact of the COVID-19 on livelihoods of the rural poor, World Vision through its education and resilience technical challenges in Ghana, conducted a rapid assessment to understand how the pandemic affected education and the welfare of the school children.

At the presentation, he said most of these children were unable to go to school and because they neither have any work doing mingled with their male counterparts and resulted in pregnancies.

Mr Richard Rudolf Kyie, Assistant Director Two and Representative of the Krachi West District Chief Executive, encouraged them to bounce back and make a meaningful future.

Mr Emmanuel Kyere, a representative of the Health Directorate, urged them to be wiser and learn from the previous experiences and rebuild their lives.

He said the opportunity to get an education has only been delayed and that they could still go back to school to make meaningful gains.

Interaction with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the beneficiaries revealed that they aspire to become teachers, nurses, bank managers, lawyers and journalists.
