Veep pays tribute to Rev. Dr Asante Antwi

Accra, Sept. 13, GNA – Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia Sunday paid a glowing tribute to the late Most Reverend Dr Samuel Asante-Antwi, the first Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana.

In a Facebook post to convey his condolences, Dr Bawumia said: “I have learnt with shock the passing of Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Asante-Antwi, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party, former Council of State member under President Kufuor, and former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana.

Until his death, Most Rev. Asante-Antwi was the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral Project.

Rev. Asante- Antwi died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Saturday night, September 12, after a short illness.

Vice President Bawumia stated that Rev. Dr. Asante-Antwi served Ghana diligently, and played an integral role in the transition from military regime to democratic dispensation.

He described him as a “fearless man who was not cowed by arbitrary use of power”.

“My condolences to the immediate family, the Church and his loved ones, the Vice President wrote.

“I will miss Papa. Rest in peace man of God until we meet again.”
