Okaikoi North MP and MCE initiate water projects for markets

Accra, Sept. 3, GNA – Mr Fuseini Issah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi North and the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Mr Boye Laryea have initiated water projects for Lapaz New Market and Achimota Market in Accra.
The initiative was part of the extension of water pipe systems in all markets, supply and installation of poly-tanks in selected markets and lorry parks, and repair of broken down stand-pipes in the municipality.

This was made known when the MP and the Chief Executive met with the executives of the Lapaz New Market and the Achimota Market to seek their inputs for the siting of the water projects.

Mr Laryea in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the move was in fulfillment of government directive to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to provide water for markets and lorry parks as part of measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 and to promote regular handing washing among the traders.

He said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is committed to social justice for development hence the socio-economic empowerment of the citizenry, especially among those on the lower ladder in society.

Mr Laryea urged the executives of the markets to prevail upon their members to ensure proper handling and maintenance of the facilities, which were being financed by the public purse.

Mr Issah said the project has been handed to the contractor, Messrs Mizpah Construction Limited, and would soon take off and completed in two weeks.

He called on the executives to support the contractor as their members would face some inconveniences in the cause of the project.

The executives appealed to the Assembly to provide the markets with sweepers and to beef up security by scaling up the walls while providing a gate to prevent thieves in the night.
