GNECC urges BECE candidates to observe COVID-19 protocols

Accra, Sept. 13, GNA – The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition has urged candidates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to strictly observe the COVID-19 safety protocols and the examination regulations.

The Coalition, therefore, asked parents to provide all the necessary materials, including face masks, sanitizer, pens, pencils, and Mathematical sets to enable the candidates to write their examination smoothly.

The Coalition also encouraged the candidates to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner to avoid any incidents of examination malpractices.

This was in a statement signed by Mr Joseph Atsu Homadzi, the Interim Board Chairman, GNECC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra.

The 2020 BECE will start on Monday, September 14, and end on Friday, September 18, 2020 at all the designated examination centres throughout the country.

“The Coalition is committed to advocating for the delivery of quality pre-tertiary education for the Ghanaian child and it is in this vein that we commend all BECE candidates and their teachers for the arduous task in getting this far,” the statement said.

The Coalition called for the creation of a favorable school environment for the candidates to write their papers.

“We urge the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, the WAEC and all other stakeholders to collaborate to put effective monitoring mechanisms in place for a successful Examination,” it said.

Meanwhile, a statement from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said a total of 531,705 candidates comprising 269,419 males and 262,286 females are writing for the exams.

The candidates are from 17,440 schools and they would write the Examination at 2007 centres.
