Four persons arrested in connection with UG Law lecturer’s death

Accra, Sept 13, GNA – The Police have arrested four staff of the late Professor Emmanuel Benneh to assist investigations into his murder.

They are: Christian Pobee, 32, and James Nana Womba, 26, both cleaners; Isaac Botchwey, 34, a houseboy, and Adams Mensah Mansur, 52, a gardener.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra, said the Command had taken over the case.

Emmanuel Yaw Benneh was a professor of Law at the University of Ghana Law Faculty.

He was found dead in a pool of blood at his Agyiriganor home, a suburb of Accra.

DSP Tenge, said on Saturday September 12, 2020, at about 0730 hours, a report was received by the East Legon Police, that Prof Benneh had been found dead at his residence.
Consequently, the Police Crime Scene Investigation Team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) proceeded to his residence, where they found him lying in a pool of blood with some cuts on the body.

The body, she added, had been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue pending investigations.

Prof Benneh earned both his Master of Letters and Master of Laws (International Law Option) from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, and had a postgraduate Certificate in International and Comparative Law from University of Leiden.

He earned his Bachelor of Laws with Second Class Upper from the University of Ghana and had enormous consulting experience and had published extensively.

He also researched, published and taught in Public International Law, Law of Diplomacy and International Institutions, International Human Rights Law, United Nations Law, International Trade and Investment Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Humanitarian Law and
International Criminal Law.
