Covid-19: Norbert Amefu cancels 2020 Norlympics Taekwondo competition

Accra, Sept. 11, GNA – Mr. Norbert Amefu, the President of Norlympics Taekwondo has canceled the 2020 Norlympics Taekwondo designed to develop talents aged 5-13 to become professionals.

The annual event was canceled this year due to the global pandemic, Coronavirus which has halted sporting activities in Ghana since March.

Mr. Amefu told the GNA Sports that, the novel virus has disrupted its training sessions and with the government’s ban on contact sports activities and the fear of contracting the virus after the ban is lifted, it would be prudent the Norlympics taekwondo is canceled till next year.

He said “Covid-19 disrupted our training program this year after the ban on contact sports, we couldn’t continue with our activities. We don’t have the resources to go virtual with our activities unlike in Europe so it became difficult to train but even if the ban is lifted I know some people would still have the fear that they can contract the virus.

“For this year, I won’t organize any tournament till next year.”

Mr. Amefu who doubles as the Greater Accra Taekwondo Chairman said despite the ban, he advises his senior athletes to continue training whilst home so they do not become rusty.
