Ghanaian industries urged to use E-commerce to attract new clients

Koforidua, Aug. 14, GNA – The Vice Chairperson of the Eastern, Volta, and Oti branch of the Association of Ghana Industries(AGI), Mrs Lucy Tenkorang has called on members to position themselves to attract new customers both locally and internationally through the AGI E-Commerce portal.

She said businesses are not in normal times and the government was putting in place measures to ensure that businesses of members operate despite the harsh economic conditions.

Mrs Tenkorang said institutions were slowly realigning their strategies to fine-tune the way they deliver goods and services to their customers in the face of fast changes in technology every day.

Mrs Tenkorang made the call when she addressed members of the association at an E-commerce workshop at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The workshop was organised by the association in collaboration with Logic Go Managers of E-commerce.

The workshop was geared towards equipping members of the association with knowledge on the essence and benefits of displaying their products on E-commerce platform and how members can standardize their products to meet international standards.

She said the E-Commerce portal for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for the three regions was to prepare members ahead of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFTCTA).

The Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Standards Authority(GSA), Mr Eric Asamoah urged members of the association to always ensure that they got the right certification from the GSA before they displayed their products to the public.

He said often businesses mixed the work of the GSA with that of the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority and explained that the two bodies had their respective roles they played before a product was out on the market.

He said it was the duty of the GSA to inspect the product, test, and ensure that the product met the right standards then certify it to be displayed in the markets for public use.

He explained that it was mandatory by law for products manufactured locally to be certified by the GSA else, “it becomes an offense”.

The Administrator at HPW Fresh and Dry Limited, Mr Polycarp Opoku-Dwamenah encouraged more businesses in the region to take advantage and join the AGI to benefit from the E-commerce project.
