Curbing indiscipline in Zongos a collective duty

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA – Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Mazuk, an official at the Office of the National Chief Imam, has said the fight against indiscipline among some youth in the Zongos should be a collective responsibility of all stakeholders.

Dr Mazuk said fighting indiscipline ‘individually’ among stakeholders of the community, rather than coming together to form a collective force was not yielding the desired results.

“We need to come together in this agenda, all groups need to come on board, so that together we can achieve this goal of transforming our Zongo communities,” he said.

The Sheikh made these remarks at a Youth dialogue session on the theme: “The rising indiscipline in contemporary society, viewpoints of the Zongo Youth,” organised by the Youth Directorate of the Office of the National Chief Imam.

He said education in all its forms, formal and informal, was necessary in curbing indiscipline in the Zongos, adding that, holistic education was the first step to propelling the development of the youth.

“We can’t develop a responsible youth front without education; education, including formal, informal, vocational and technical, is the first step to growing a well-informed and responsible youth,” he said.

Alhaji Khuzaima Osmon, Director of Youth Directorate of the Office of the Chief Imam, said young people needed to learn from responsible adults in the community.

He said such adults serve as role models for the youth, saying “they need to mentor the youth into becoming discipline just as themselves.”

He commended the various youth groups in the Zongos who were championing the ‘youth course’ in the communities and called on all youth to support them.
