Sefwi-Waiwso(W/N).1 July, GNA – Nana Elluo Panyin III, Chief of Sefwi- Nsuansua and Gyidomhene of Waiwso traditional area has urged eligible voters to take the on-going voters’ registration exercise seriously and turn out in their numbers to register.
According to the traditional ruler, “it is the political right for every Ghanaian of 18 years and above to vote during elections and the acquisition of a voter identity card formed the foundation or the basic requirement for the exercise of this political right”.
Nana Elluo panyin III, gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Sefwi- Waiwso.
He emphasized that though traditional authorities were not prohibited from taking part in active party politics as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, they were equally empowered by the same constitution to ensure peace in their communities, promote socio-economic development, political and economic stability.
He indicated that it was the responsibility of chiefs to preach to their people on the need to desist from all forms of actions and inactions that could undermine the work of the electoral officers in their various communities.
He encouraged traditional authorities, religious heads, opinion leaders, and civil society groups to provide the necessary assistance to officials of the Electoral Commission to make the exercise successful.
Nana Elluo panyin III cautioned the youth not to allow themselves to be used by any political figure to cause trouble during the registration exercise.
He called on Ghanaians to give the Electoral Commission the needed support to enable them to come up with a credible and reliable register.
