Tamale, June 30, GNA – The mass registration of citizens for the compilation of the new voters’ register took off smoothly in the Northern Region on Tuesday albeit late at some registration centres.
Citizens thronged the registration centres and waited patiently for their turn to get registered.
Whilst some centres had security personnel, others did not have any and it was difficult to enforce the social distancing protocol, especially at centres that did not have security personnel.
Some of the centres visited included: Yendi Court House (1), Yendi Court House (2) and Yendi Primary School in the Yendi Constituency; Gushegu Local Council (1), Gushegu JHS (1), Nasiria K.G (1) and Gushegu Watania Day Care, all in the Gushegu Constituency; Kalpohin SHS (1) in the Tamale North Constituency and Sakasaka Police Station Registration Centre in the Tamale Central Constituency.
Some of the citizens had the required identity cards whilst a handful of them waited for others to register to vouch for them to also register.
At Kalpohin SHS (1) Registration Centre, as of 1000hrs, there were 10 people, who did not have Ghana Cards or Passport, and were waiting for others to register and then vouch for them to also register.
Mr Muhazu Maruf, Registration Officer in-charge of Special Duties at the Kalpohin SHS (1) Centre in the Tamale North Constituency appealed for security personnel to be deployed to the centre to help enforce the social distancing protocol.
