Konongo (Ash), June 20, GNA – There was chaos at the constituency office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as supporters of the two candidates contesting the Asante-Akim Central Constituency clashed over missing names of some delegates.
Most of the affected delegates are believed to be supporters of Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah who is challenging the incumbent, Mr. Kwame Anyimadu Antwi.
As they rushed to the Constituency Office to protest the anomaly, they came face to face with the supporters of the incumbent who would not allow them access to the party office.
This degenerated into a scuffle between the two factions forcing some of the electoral officers to abandon post.
It took the intervention of security personnel to bring the situation under control.
Mr Nkasah claimed in an interview with the Ghana News Agency that the anomaly was a deliberate attempt by the constituency executives to disenfranchise his supporters.
According to him, the album being used by the Electoral Commission (EC) was different from the one given to him and the incumbent MP.
He bemoaned the machinations to tilt the election in favour of the incumbent and called on the regional and national executives to step in to avoid a nasty situation.
Meanwhile, Madam Agnes Adu Yeboah, the Constituency Director of Research, however told the GNA that all those whose names were missing were suspended for breaching party rules.
She said since the suspension had not be lifted, they could not vote because they were not accredited to participate in the exercise.
