Accra, June 22, GNA – Senior High Schools (SHSs) throughout the country Monday re-opened to adequately prepare final year students for the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Gold Track students are also back to school to complete their first semester, in line with the Presidential Directive as part of the gradual easing of the COVID-19 restrictions.
The Ghana News Agency, during a visit to a number of senior high schools within the Accra Metropolis, observed that students had dully reported.
At the Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, Mr Emmanuel Akyemvi, the Assistant Headmaster, Administration, said they had put in place adequate measures to receive the students.
He told the GNA that most of the students had reported and that they were going through registration processes.
Upon reporting to school, each student had his temperature taken and was given facemasks and hand sanitizer, he said.
Mr Akyemvi said the students comprise those who were already borders and day students, who would be admitted as boarders.
He said preparations that went on for receiving the students include distancing in the classrooms and reducing the number of students per dormitory, with dining to be attended in batches.
The Assistant Headmaster said there were veronica buckets with liquid soap at the classroom blocks for students and teachers to wash their hands.
In his message to the students, Mr Akyemvi said: “Our survival or our lives are in our own hands and, therefore, we must be responsible by ensuring that we follow the COVID-19 protocols to contain the disease.”
“We shall not have social gatherings but we have the public address (PA) system to give out information to students.”
At the Accra Girls SHS, students had reported but the School’s authorities declined to speak to the GNA.
When the GNA got to the Achimota School the authorities were locked up in a meeting.
