Road Safety NGO donates items to Airport Police Command

Accra, June 11, GNA – Street Sense Organisation, a road safety Non-Governmental Organisation has donated road safety items to the Airport District Police Command.

The items, worth GH¢ 23,000 was to support government’s effort in curbing road accidents in the country.

They included; reflector vests, branded T-shirts, key holders, stickers and copies of the 2018 report of the Organisation.

Mr Yao Doe Tamakloe, the Director of Operations, Street Sense Organisation, said the organisation was established in few years back and had since been championing road safety education and sensitisation throughout the country.

That, he said, they do in collaboration with stakeholders in the sector, including; the Ministries of Roads and Highways, and Transport, the National Road Safety Commission and other private organisations.

Mr Tamakloe said they have been donating road safety items to the front line institutions, including; the Ghana Police Service to enhance their efforts in the fight to reduce road carnages and to protect lives.

“Today’s donation was to further equip you to achieve the common goal, thus, to protect lives on our roads,” he said.

Mrs Gloria Laryea, a Trustee of SSO, said their main concern was safety on the country’s roads and stressed the need for all users to be more careful and use the roads safely by adhering to all regulations.

She said the organization normally embarks on education and awareness creation, especially during festivities such as Christmas, Easter and Kwawu Festivals.

“Unfortunately, this year, we could not do our Easter education because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

Mrs Laryea said the organization made tremendous impact and expressed the hope that in time Street Sense would become a household name.

The Commander in charge of the Airport District Police Command, Chief Superintendent Eric Asiedu, was grateful for the gesture, which he said came at the right time and assured the donors that the items would be put to good use.
