Akatsi (V/R), June 19, GNA – A total of 24 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Akatsi South District of the Volta region have received support from government to enhance their livelihoods.
The items worth Gh₵60,184.60, included deep freezers, hair dryers, cassava graters, industrial sewing machines, wheel chairs, foot sewing machines and overlock, laptop computers, sandal and shoe making machines, storage barrels and knitting machines.
Mr Leo Nelson Adzidogah, the District Chief Executive for Akatsi South, who presented the items, urged the beneficiaries to use them for the intended purposes.
He said, “I urge you to use the items and not to give it to people or sell it to others, else you will get yourselves into a very serious economic hardship,” and added that there is an ongoing construction of a Business Resource Centre (BRC) in the District.
“Construction has already started at the Assembly’s premises, and when completed the centre would be used as orientation joint for all artisans in the district,” the DCE said.
Mr. Dorkordi Emmanuel, Akatsi South District Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, challenged beneficiaries to put the items to good use.
Mr Selase Aflakpui, a benefiary, commended the Assembly for it’s “timely intervention.”
He said the continuous support to PWDs would alleviate their plight and make them independent.
