Accra, June 4, GNA – The Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) on Thursday alerted the public of activities of some fraudulent persons impersonating staff members of the Council to defraud unsuspecting people.
The N&MC, in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the imposters were using the photograph of Mr Eric Lipe Abaye, a Senior Administrative Officer at the Council, to defraud clients.
The statement, jointly signed by Nana Boateng Agyeman, the Head of Public Affairs Directorate, and Mr Abaye, however said the Council had taken steps to get its official Facebook page (Facebook.com/Nursing and Midwifery Council) verified.
It said the fraudsters were promising people jobs, offering to renew their PIN and assist in passing the licensing examination, adding; “These are fake offers in the name of Mr Eric Lipe Abaye”.
The statement said these groups of imposters also operate fake Facebook accounts with different variations of the account name of the Council.
It, therefore, urged its clients and stakeholders to ensure that any information purporting to emanate from the Council had the blue tick against its account name and profile photo.
It said the only official Facebook account of the Council was Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana with a blue tick, signifying that the page had been verified by Facebook.
Furthermore, the imposters were reported to request for payment of monies from their victims through mobile money numbers: 0245419435, 0548223308, 0550332159, 0240818540 and 0555275728.
The N&MC said the only authorised revenue collection agencies on behalf of the Council were the GCB Bank and ADB.
It advised that anyone who was contacted by such Facebook or social media accounts soliciting monies on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana should promptly report to the police or the Public Affairs Directorate of the Council on: 0302522909/10, 0200862772 or 0501079037.
